Crimes in Paris
Paris is an old city, meaning it has a long history.
This city can look very secure but it has been the scene of a lot of crimes since hundreds of years.
"Les visites de Theo" offers to show you this history in 3 ways :
PARIS POLICIER : Ile de la Cité
The judiciary and police departments are part of the state and the city. It was founded in the Middle Age by religious and royal figures, with specific buildings. This visit of l'Ile de la Cité will show you the Palais de Justice and its old Prison (which is now a museum), the Prefecture de Police, the courts... The Royal Palace from the Xth to the XIVth century was built in this island too. You will have the chance to visit places where torture, judgements, prisoneers and detectives have taken place since Middle Age.
PARIS ASSASSIN : Châtelet les Halles
This second visit will show you the central area of Paris. This is where the executions took places (pilori, Place de Grève), but also the central trading place of Paris since the King decided to enlarge the city. This place has not only been a trading place but also where crooks and bandits were located, with all the crimes that happened out there. For example , you will visit the "Cimetière des Innocents", Notre Dame des Halles (also named St Eustache)...
PARIS MEURTRIER : Latin area of Paris
From political murders of the anti-revolutionarists to serial killers, the power and the money are always involved. The Science is now helping the Police to resolve crimes. You will visit the Place de l'Estrapade and the place where guillotins were built. The Latin area is where Romans were established : you still can visit the Thermes du Collège de France, the Arènes... Later, the christians built their churches and the Merovingians their "abbayes" : this area feels religious ! The Latin area is also the place where you can find the famous university : La Sorbonne. This is the area where the French Revolution was prepared. You will visit the Pantheon and discover the antic history of Paris with all the crimes and murders that happened in this area.
In conclusion, these 3 visits of 2 hours each will show you the history of Paris but in a criminal state of mind.
